Course Description

Reincarnation. Spirit communication. Travelling out of the body. Apparitions & Hauntings. Near-Death Experiences.

Does the spirit survive death? Is there scientific evidence that we are more than just a physical body? These questions have lingered with humanity for centuries, and beginning in the late 1800’s, the scientific community began exploring evidence for the existence of spirit. Though we are still far from an answer, extensive evidence has been gathered in rigorous scientific experiments including attempts to weight the soul, verification of past life memories, and complex experiments in spirit communication.

How do scientists examine these topics often thought to be purely in the realm of religious scholars? Explore these and other topics in this 4 week course from the Rhine Education Center.

This is a continuing education course, but students will be introduced to scientific articles and references that will help them to make their own decisions about life after death. Prepare to open your mind to a changing view of science while continuing to challenge your innermost thoughts and most firmly held beliefs.

Course Description

This 4-week online course will focus on how the Rhine Research Center came into being, looking at J. B. and Louisa E. Rhine and how they got interested in psychical research in the 1920s, their journey from the University of Chicago through Harvard to Duke University, the mediumship research that started it all, the early days of the Parapsychology Laboratory at Duke University and the decades after that, to J. B.’s retirement and the establishment of the Foundation for the Research on the Nature of Man (yes, that’s what it was called), and its Institute for Parapsychology.

Card-guessing, dice experiments, psychic healing experiments on gerbils and mice, random number generators, drawing experiments, the Ganzfeld, early psychic computer games: The history of the Rhine Research Center has it all! The course will include weekly online lecture broadcasts, discussion forums, readings, videos, online testing, and a couple of class projects. Come join us for this fascinating look at the history of research at the Rhine.

Course Description

The research findings from the field of Parapsychology have demonstrated that psi abilities-- ESP and PK (psychokinesis / mind over matter) – are functions of normal human beings, much like creativity. Some people are more creative than others in different disciplines, but everyone seems to have some creativity in them, provided they can find it and have some belief it can be developed and utilized.

Developing one's psychic/intuitive abilities is much the same. Some people have a natural aptitude for certain psychic talents that spontaneously manifest themselves, others need to find which applications of psi they have aptitude for and work on bringing them out.

This course will cover the major findings of Parapsychology relating to what makes a person more (or less) intuitive/psychic and will include exercises that will help you both test and develop the abilities you may have aptitude for, including a remote viewing experiment and a "Telepathy" game you can play with your family and friends.

In addition, we will discuss the importance of specific characteristics and beliefs, the range of beliefs about ESP around the world, how personal belief -- whether arrived at because of culture, religion, education or family upbringing -- can effectively support or block psychic experiences, and how to assess psychic readings.

When: Varies each quarter. Live broadcasts once a week or watch the class recordings at your convenience.

Premonitions: A Peek into the Future
with Christopher Laursen, PhD

View the Course Syllabus

This 4-week course is presented as an ungraded continuing education course from the Rhine Education Center. It will consist of weekly class broadcasts on Tuesday afternoons from 2:00pm - 4:00pm Eastern US Time, along with an interactive discussion forum where students can discuss class topics and interact with the course instructor.

If you cannot attend the live class broadcasts, you can watch the recordings of the classes when it is most convenient for you. Many successful students have attended courses by watching the class recordings.

Course Description

Premonitions have been reported from the earliest recorded history from seers and psychics to shamans and mystics. How can we come to terms with meaningful precognitive experiences – whether we ourselves experience precognition firsthand, or if we hear about such experiences from other people, in research, or in popular culture?

This course explores how a variety of experiencers and researchers in societies around the world have made sense of premonitions and precognitive experiences. What roles do our culture and previous life experiences play in considering the meaning found in premonitions? This course seeks to gain a better understanding of why precognition matters and how it can be integrated into our daily lives.

Students will examine how premonitions are translated by societies and cultures, and how to navigate diverse perspectives, beliefs, and doubts about precognition. Students will also be introduced to tools that can be applied both to advancing your studies of psi as well as exploring experiences.
